The transformation of a traditional Montréal shoebox house through the addition of a new second storey, creating additional living space while retaining the recognizable character of the original residence.
The intervention preserves the existing brick façade at ground level while introducing a contemporary upper volume distinguished by dark vertical cladding and clean detailing. The contrast between old and new allows the original building to remain visually legible while giving the home a renewed architectural identity.
Located in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, the project demonstrates how Montréal's compact shoebox houses can be adapted to contemporary residential needs through a carefully considered vertical addition.
