HOW TO EXTEND A HOUSE: THE DESIGN STAGE
Expanding a house involves more than just designing the interior of the extension. It also includes important details like the roof structure and height, the materials used for the exterior, construction of doors and windows, and the extension's overall footprint. In this guide, we will provide you with all the necessary information regarding the practical aspects of the process, as well as the enjoyable parts, such as the extension's aesthetics and interior design.
DESIGNING AN EXTENSION'S STRUCTURE
During the planning process of designing an extension, it's crucial to ensure that the design aligns with your needs to avoid incurring additional costs later. To achieve this, you have several options to consider, such as: the footprint of the extension and the height of the extension.
For the footprint or “building area”, it is important to refer to the certificate of location and the zonage map for the given lot. On this map, you will find all the information relating to setbacks, lot coverage, usage of the building as well as the maximum allowable building height.
